My baby is 6. I don't quite know how that happened. But it has.
We bought her earrings, a green soccer ball and a Yankees cap. Yes, we actually brought a Yankees cap into this house. But, she's Pumpkin. Who can say no to that face? She pretends to be Annabeth Chase from the Percy Jackson books. I borrowed the CDs from the library and she would listen to them all the time in her little corner of the living room. It is a mess there but she loves to sit there drawing and coloring while she listens to a book on CD. I need to get the Percy Jackson ones again. I don't think she enjoys the ones I borrowed the last time.
So, as Annabeth, she needs her cap so she can be invisible. It was a travesty, apparently, when she had to use a pink Red Sox cap instead.
Pumpkin was fussing that she didn't want to be last for photos. It was a moot at this point since she was the last one I was taking photos of. It took a bit but we were finally able to take a better picture.
I can't believe it! Eleven years ago on a Tuesday, Brother was born at 4:08pm at a whopping 10lbs 6 oz. I ended up with a c-section as he just wouldn't come out. I remember the doctor's appointment on Monday when the doctor said I was at about 1cm. When I arrived at the hospital, the nurses told me that the doctor was being generous. I was barely a fingertip. My water had broken at about 3 am and labor was fast and furious from that point on. My contractions started at 5 minutes apart.
The road here has been full of peaks and valleys, straight paths and crooked ones, but I wouldn't trade them for anything.
The other day, Honey wanted me to spell Mary for her (she was pretending to be Mary Poppins at Disney World signing autographs). I started with M-A-R. She screeched for asked me to stop after the R because she was having trouble writing it to her satisfaction. Here's what followed:
Honey: What's next?
Honey (feeling quite aggravated): Because I don't know how to spell it!
Me: The letter Y, Honey.
Honey (feeling quite chastened): Oh.
Then she wanted me to spell Poppins. I told her the first 3 letters. Then:
Honey: Okay, I'm ready.
Honey: I already did P!
Me: Another P.
I'd like to say I was feeling quite goodnatured at this point, but I wasn't. I was annoyed. Now, I look back on it and can laugh quite heartily.
*Yes, she's sleeping on just the mattress cover. Pumpkin got a big bed but we haven't put it together yet. Her mattress is on the floor until we move the dresser out of the room to make room for the bigger bed.
